Excel and CSV import

Your stock in Excel, and back again

Owwel downloads your stock as a CSV that opens in Excel, and the same file uploads back. Each row is matched to its product by a short product code or its SKU, only the cells you changed are updated, quantity changes are recorded as adjustments, and new SKUs become new products. You see every change before it is applied, and nothing is duplicated.

How it works

A review before anything is saved

The upload shows how many products are new, changed, unchanged or set aside, and for each change the old and new value side by side.

No duplicates, even after Excel

Excel turns long barcodes into numbers and drops leading zeros. Owwel writes SKUs so Excel keeps them, and refuses a damaged SKU rather than guess.

Categories included

A category in the file is found or created once, whatever its spelling, so the same category is never made twice.

A blank cell changes nothing

Leave a cell empty and that value stays as it is, so a file with only prices changes only prices.

Large catalogues in the background

Thousands of new products are added in the background, and closing the tab does not stop it.

Questions about excel and csv import

What columns does the file need?

Only a SKU column is required. Product Name, Category, Quantity, Cost Price, Retail Price, Wholesale Price, Unit, Low Stock Alert, Expiry Date and Product ID are read when present, in any order.

What is the Product ID column?

A short code such as P8K2Q4X that keeps a row tied to its product even if you rename it or change its SKU. Leave it blank for new products or a first upload.

Can I move from another system?

Yes. Export products from your old system to a spreadsheet, match the column names, and upload. The review shows what will be created before anything is saved.
